Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is proud to present this rugged
1988 AM General M998. More commonly referred to as a HMMWV, aka
"Humvee". Before we go any further, PLEASE NOTE: this truck was
procured through Iron Planet and is to be sold ONLY to buyers who
are U.S. Citizens, and it is NOT for export. This vehicle was built
to take a beating and withstand some of the toughest environments.
This all-terrain beast is powered by a 6.5L diesel that's backed by
a 3L80 3-speed automatic transmission, with about 4000 miles on the
drive-train since the engine and transmission were rebuilt during
its complete restoration in 2006 by the Maine Military Authority.
During the 2006 restoration, the estimated cost of all of the work
was around $40K: the engine and transmission were completely
rebuilt, all seals were replaced as well as the driveshafts, and
Tan CARC paint was applied. In 2018 it was stripped to bare metal,
and then the body was covered in Cement Gray (color code 1H5). This
truck comes with tons of extra bells and whistles, starting with OE
military air conditioning (blows cold), OE military spare tire
(drop-down style with ratchets), LED light bar in the cabin, OE
military airlift rear bumper (so your buddy can pick you up in his
military surplus CH-47 Chinook helicopter if you get out where you
can't figure out how to drive back), OE (military) 60-inch deep
fording kit, OE military winch, LED headlights and fog lights up
front, LED side marker lights, OE military radio shelf, 2 OE
military whip antennas with matching spring bases, OE military hard
doors with soft armor upgrade (and they also have locks), new OEM
soft top, new half-shafts, and all differential fluids have been
recently replaced. It also has some non-OE options that most don't
see on these trucks: 4 new vinyl seats, Sony AM/FM/Bluetooth radio,
waterproof tower speakers, Cerwin-Vega subwoofer, 4 aviation
headsets with mic and intercom system (you'll find it makes it much
easier to speak with each other in the cab - those big tires help
add to the noise these trucks make; plus, you can listen to the
sound system's music with them). It also has a CB Radio with an
engine bay-mounted PA speaker, keyed ignition (not just pushbutton
start), rear backup camera (you'll be glad you have it), LED
overhead exterior light bar, and a lockable rear center console.
This truck can take you wherever you need to go with its prodigious
territory-conquering ability. The almost brand-new NITTO
37X13.50R18LT Ridge Grappler radial tires have only about 1500
miles on them, and they're wrapped around a giant set of aluminum
Fuel wheels, which really provides a nice aggressive look. When you
buy this HMMWV, you'll be the owner of one of the nicest HMMWVs
outside of Schwarzenegger's garage. M998s in this condition, with
the kind of upgrades this one is equipped with, are extremely few
and far between; so don't let it slip away! For more information on
