Plymouth had a banner year in 1949, increasing their sales nearly
50 percent over the prior year, and found themselves with a firm
hold on third place in the overall sales race, right behind Chevy
and Ford. Why was the '49 Plymouth such a big hit? A fresh new
design on the eve of a bright new decade, along with plenty of
engineering advances that they touted in all the ads. Cody's
Classic Cars is pleased to offer this amazing, survivor example of
the 1949 Plymouth Special DeLuxe Sedan. Showing a little over 40k
miles on the odometer, this car spent most of it's life in the same
family, having only recently left the third generation's care. Sold
new at DeSoto/Plymouth dealer Sumption Motors in Rock Island, IL on
October 11, 1949. this Plymouth Black over Blue Broadcloth Special
DeLuxe was pampered from the start, having been stored most winters
and escaping the harsh effects of Midwest snow/salt. The exterior
is believed to be all original, and still presents very well, with
only minor blemishes here and there. Extra goodies like a sun
visor, fender skirts, and fog lights really dress it up! The
interior is stunning, and the dash/gauges/bright work all appear as
if they did in 1949. Recent services include new or rebuilt brakes,
starter, water pump, valves, generator, carburetor, tune up, fuel
pump, gas tank, radial tires, belts, hoses, battery, and more!
Recently this car has been driven over 1500 trouble free miles, and
glides down the road smoothly and effortlessly. This is a rare
chance to take home one of the nicest examples of a '49 Plymouth
that you'll ever find - one that is road worthy and ready to enjoy
right away! Reasonable offers encouraged, financing/shipping
available, we sell worldwide!
